Name: Kei, last name unknown. Reincarnated name will be Keisuke "Kei" Ogawa
Canon and medium: Moonchild | film
Age: Reincarnated age is around 25, Preincarnated is roughly around 70 years
Preincarnation Species: Vampire, formally human.
Preincarnation Appearance: 2003 was a weird time for fashion
Any differences: here. No dyed hair, though he's still quite short and has the same tattoo of angel wings on his back.
Preincarnated History: -Low-income family in Tokyo, used to wandering around on his own. Met Luka.
-Luka, a vampire, wound up turning Kei. The two wander around and Kei develops a co-dependent relationship with him.
-1999, New Years in Japan. Tired of living for so long, Luka commits suicide by standing on a beach at sunrise. Leaves Kei alone with a song he used to sing all the time.
-Kei wanders around for a few years before deciding he might as well die, too. Winds up in Mallepa, China. Instead of dying in the sunlight, a little orphan by the name of Sho pulls him out of the sun. Kei returns the favour by raising Sho, his brother Shinji, and their friend Toshi. He teaches them how to pickpocket, etc.
-Winds up teaching them how to use guns and helps out when they're older to raid other groups for cash. Develops a strong connection with Sho most of all, and winds up feeding on the gangsters they fight in order to survive. Sho meets Yi-Che and her brother, Son, on one of their raids. They bond and all become friends.
-Happiness doesn't last forever: the mafia decides to go for Sho and his little group. Kei, in an attempt to save them, loses control and reveals to everyone that he's really a vampire by feeding in the open. Despite his supernatural intervention, Toshi dies. In grief, guilt, shame and hatred for what he is, Kei flees from the group and doesn't look back.
-9 years later, Kei is in jail for multiple murders and is begging to be killed. The government is keeping him alive due to his supernatural powers and wanting to study them. Kei, like Luka before him, wishes to be put to death, as he's grown tired on feeding on others.
-Sho manages to track him down. Kei at first refuses to talk to him, and but lets Sho talk--Sho explains that he's married to Yi-Che, and that she had actually been in love with Kei and refused Sho's advances many times because of it. They now have a child named Hana. Son, Yi-che's brother, is now in a rival gang run by a Mr. Chan. Kei's only remark is that he's glad Sho's not dead because he's always reckless.
-An undetermined amount of time later, Sho calls Kei in jail and begs him to come back. Shinji is dead from trying to pull a gun on Mr. Chan and Yi-che has a tumor. At the same time, Kei finally gets his requests granted to be put to death. Instead of execution, however, he breaks out of prison and heads to Mallepa to help Sho. This implies that Kei could have technically left/escaped at any time, but was too consumed with guilt to do so.
-Once reunited, Sho explains he's going to take on Mr. Chan. Kei agrees, but refuses to turn Yi-Che into a vampire like him out of the knowledge that she'll regret having to kill others in order to survive for the rest of her life. Instead, it's decided that if anything happens to Sho, Kei will take care of their child, Hana.
-The battle begins. Kei makes his way through everything. Mr. Chan has died due to a coup d'etat, and Kei finds Sho in rather dire circumstances: Son, Yi-Che's brother, has shot his ward multiple times and Sho's gun misfired. Kei is unable to move to him until the sun sets so he can rescue Sho without burning.
-Kei turns Sho out of grief--something he'd sworn never to do--and Sho, unable to take what he's become, allows Kei to raise Hana on his own. Kei gives Hana a much better life than he had the orphans earlier--she gets a proper education and stays relatively safe from the crime rampant in the city.
-After Hana graduates, Sho and Kei reunite one more time. They drive to the beach, singing the song Luka had taught Kei previously, and wait for the sun to rise. They both commit suicide in doing so.

Reincarnated History: Keisuke didn't so much grow up as he was forced to do so. Born to a mother who didn't care and a father whom he didn't know, he found himself on his own for most of the time and taking care of himself. He found it difficult to socialize and difficult to empathize with his fellow classmates and others his age, judging them as naive. Having had enough of high school and that life, at age 15 he ran away. Not the wisest move, but it has certainly turned out for the better, in Kei's opinion.
Before deciding to split, Kei was the quintessential quiet child. He would go to school every day, of course, but more to get away from what he viewed as a stuffy household despite an absentee, constantly working mother. School was a chance to escape and learn about different things, though he would often refuse to do the work. However, he grew disillusioned with the other kids. Most of it was stemming from jealousy, of course: for the most part, his fellow teens had decent parents, but would often complain about them anyway. Keisuke immediately began to associate his generation with selfishness and greed and, believing himself to be above it, and growing more and more cynical, withdrawing from school completely, giving up on learning anything in a classroom with those he deemed as not worth his time. Thankfully, his brief stint with a superiority complex would fizzle and die once he learned what actual life outside of his school's walls was like.
Surprisingly, Kei didn't suffer as much as one would think. Quick to think and quicker to adapt, he kept mainly to a small group of fellow orphans (he insists he is one, despite both parents living) and learned the ropes of how to survive--how to pickpocket, how to keep hidden, what to say and how to act in order to stay in shelters. Being small in stature and nearly feminine in looks certainly helped, and his quiet demeanor added to the assumption by many that he was just a shy, unfortunate youth.
Despite being happier on a whole, Kei felt that something was still off. While stealing and conning wasn't too bad, he felt like he could do better. Be greater. Kei told himself it was whim when he purchases a guitar at a pawn shop, but he winds up never putting it down for long, learning quickly and beginning to busk the streets. It proves to be much more satisfying, though to this day Kei still can't quite place what made him buy the cheap thing on an impulse. Perhaps some day he'll realize it's residual of his past life, when he sung quite a bit.
He moved from place to place, leaving mostly when he had exhausted his resources or he felt like he had outstayed his welcome. A drifter, he wandered, quietly slipping in and out of situations and deals involving places to stay in exchange for playing a night or two. He made sure to leave immediately after, gone without a word.
Kei made money when he can, and after a few more years of performing and learning to manage his money adequately, he's found himself in Locke City where he's finally feeling somewhat at peace about where he is. He's not quite content with hustling pool and strumming idly for loose change anymore, though, and certainly feels like he can do much, much more.
First Echo: This jacket. Kei had been searching a second hand store when he saw it and felt compelled to put it on. The echo is faint, but still very much his past life--Kei has garbled memories of a basement, where for some reason, he had a gun. There were those attacking him but he remembers dancing, almost waltzing with a dead body he was using as a temporary shield. Surprisingly, Kei doesn't find himself shocked or disgusted, which is what bothers him the most second only to the numbers. The numbers in his head he assumes is the beat or time signature of some sort to the odd dance--and, logging into a computer at the library, his attempt at googling said numbers brings him to the network.
Preincarnation Personality: Despite wanting to, Kei is not a loner. He is almost always alone, of course--but he does feel like he needs some sort of companion or friend to be dependent on. This is an important distinction to make: a loner implies one enjoys the hardship of wandering around by themselves and only themselves. On the contrary, Kei finds solace in one close friend. Perhaps too much solace.
These relationships are very few and far between, but last a very long time, hinting that Kei is extremely loyal. While adaptable as well, when it comes to his own needs he is often stubborn and selfish. In the event that he has to choose his own safety or his most recent attachments', however--Luka, for example, or Sho--he won't hesitate to save them first.
He has a deep seeded hatred of himself, mostly from what he is. He finds no glory or romance or joy in being a vampire, and despite his loose morals with the resident gangs in Mallepa and shooting them, the fact that he has to feed on others bothers him. He dwells on it far too much, thinking he's a monster, and thinking himself even weaker since he can't end his own life and just end the cycle.
He's bitter, jaded, and cynical--despite looking incredibly young, his old age shows. He doesn't quite believe in anything anymore, despite Sho's insistence at times. He fears letting his primal urges to feed out, especially in front of people he's cared about. Self-conscious almost to a fault, he much prefers to linger in the background and make himself as unobtrusive as possible. He can learn about people that way; mimic what makes them seem like they're fine. It's a great way to masquerade in the human world and act as normal as possible, and a sort of way to humble himself and remind himself who he is.
Unless you're that special person that Kei chooses and takes under his wing, it's very hard to see another side of him other than the distant, if polite, person in the corner. Sho, for example, works as his foil--as a teenager and growing up he was reckless and wild, and gave Kei something to focus on, and to teach. Teaching someone what he knows is the only way he feels he can contribute, leaving a legacy of sorts. Unfortunately, they're the only person that gets to know him well and see all of his sides.
He's not one to get angry--Kei is certainly all about control and keeping calm. He's honed it for years, and his basic survival instincts are tempered with caution and aloof indifference unless something threatens his very small personal circle. While he's patient, as described earlier, he can only take so much, especially when prodded about his past. He has a tendency to sulk and brood, as is wont with most vampire cliches, and has an affinity for staring off into space while lurking in dark corners.
His transgressions before he's met with anyone in the present-day is a hot button issue for him. He'll refuse to answer, probably side step the question, but if you insist he's very likely to snap and become similar to a moody teenager. A Byronic hero of sorts, Kei's also quite capable of love and affection, it's merely rare. While probably not the best parent, he did wind up raising Sho and others from a very young age into (mostly) respectable adults. At the very least, helped them to not get caught as much.
Smart, a quick thinker, and wise beyond his years, Kei is an invaluable friend. The hard part is getting him on your side, even if he agrees with you. While he does favour staying out of situations unless absolutely needed, there is a very small part of him that enjoys every scrap, fight and battle. Though he won't admit it, it reminds him of when he was still alive.
Any differences: At his core, Keisuke is still a quiet person who would much rather observe and people watch--however, since he has grown up traveling and on and around the streets, he's much more accepting of people in his life and will open up a little easier. He does keep them at arms length--acquaintances rather than friends--but is slightly more sociable. He'll attend parties and the like, and it's widely known that couch surfing his his normal method of staying dry. Still an old soul, he lacks the wisdom that his preincarnation had, but has a tendency to keep his head on straight for the most part. He's far more into music than his old self--perhaps a nod to his past life's singing, Keisuke had dove headfirst into music the first time he heard a guitar when he was younger and refuses to come up for air. It fills a loneliness in him he doesn't realize he has, and he's quite content to just play for cash on the street with absolutely no drive to become world-famous or the like.
Abilities: -SUNLIGHT: Like most vampires, Kei burns in the sun. His skin will smoke, peel and die, and he will combust. Unlike most lore, Kei can go out when it's sufficiently cloudy or raining. It will however make him slow, sluggish, zombie-like and detatched from himself, much like someone who's been drugged.
-BLOODTHIRST Kei's biggest fault. In order to survive, he needs to feed. He drains the victim of their blood via his fangs, killing them to get his full share. It can be assumed that once he's feeding it's hard to snap him out of it, as it has a euphoric effect.
+GUNPLAY Kei has had time to perfect the art of using a firearm. With his heightened senses, he has an immaculate sense of timing, aim, and finesse.
+BRAWLER It doesn't seem like Kei knows a particular martial art, but he is more than capable of going toe-to-toe with someone. He's learned from the streets and isn't afraid to fight dirty, either.
+SUPER STRENGTH One of the few perks of being a vampire. Despite being short of stature and thin in size, Kei can lift quite a bit. He has no problems carrying Sho around and then some, and though he can't exactly pick up a truck and throw it, he could lift it to grab someone trapped underneath.
+SUPER SPEED Like his strength, Kei is able to travel quickly to the extend of dodging bullets. His reflexes are sharp and keen, including his eyesight and how quickly he can pick up movement. He can move so fast it will seem like hes' floating of gliding at times.
+HEALING / IMMORTALITY Kei is capable of dying, of course, it simply takes a certain amount to kill him--decapitation and fire. Otherwise, Kei has the ability to heal his wounds. It can be assumed that the more blood he has from feeding, the quicker the healing.
+KNOWLEDGE While intelligent, a large portion of what he's picked up has been street smarts, mainly, and over a long period of time. It goes back to just before he was bitten sometime in the 1980s.
+LANGUAGES Canonically, Kei can speak English, Cantonese, and Japanese fluently.
Roleplay Sample - Third Person: Keisuke wakes up and the first thing he realizes is that it's not that cold for once, despite his feet being unusually chilly. The second, of course, is the harsh remembrance of a party he'd been invited to after some small gig he'd attended. It comes in the form of a lovely headache, and almost makes him want to hurl.
He's not on a couch or an extra bed, and there's a horrible kink in his neck that causes him to grunt as his eyes snap open. It's a kitchen. Who's kitchen he's unsure of, but it's a place to lay his head and--
Ugh. What the hell had happened, exactly? Someone he didn't know had insisted he 'come out of his shell' and there was a girl (was it a guy?) insisting he dance... One hell of a party, but it had left Kei with a hangover from the depths of hell itself. It took what felt like two years but was actually a couple of seconds for him to get his bearings and roll off the kitchen counter where he'd drunkenly deposited himself the night previous. Bare feet hit the tile floor and he narrowly avoided slipping on a glass beer bottle, giving his heart a slight jump in his chest at the prospect of having to go to the ER for stitches.
Swiping a pack of Camels from a fellow party goer currently face down on the table, Kei fished a lighter from his jean pocket and stepped over what was once a lamp. The more and more cognizant and aware of the situation the more his thoughts tried to cut through the haziness of his hangover and more and more he realized he had no idea the location of his guitar, let alone where he was in the city himself.
"Shit."
So much for finding his shoes and making a clean escape before he was asked to come back to help clean up. He needed his guitar, and badly. It was only thing he really cared about.
At least he scored some free cigs.
Roleplay Sample - Network: [ Who has two thumbs and desperately wants to be anywhere else but in the public library freaking out over numbers? This guy. Badly.
The screen flickers to life and Kei pulls slender shoulders into a half-assed shrug, glancing briefly over his shoulder, cautious. Checking for the librarian, no doubt. ]
Nnn--I'm guessing I accidentally hacked into some kind of network... [ He trails off, gaze flickering down for a moment. ] Not my intention.
[ Not really sure what the intention was in the first place. Still, when his eyes snap back up, his brows lift. He doesn't bother to say anything else, not at first, though he does lean back. ]
What do the numbers mean?
